That little trailer wet your appetite? Well, that was pretty much all you need to know about the plot of the movie but I'll fill you in anyways. King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) has a problem with the gods and so is busy murdering and pillaging his way across ancient Greece in search of Epirus Bow, a legendary bow of godly powers but is capable of releasing the evil Titans from their cage in the depths of Mount Tartaros. Standing in his way is the god chosen peasant Theseus (Henry Cavill).
First things first, saw this in 3D. As per usual it was a massive waste of time. Only bits of notable 3D were all in the intro CGI. This is a common fact in 3D movies that are not made for children and highlights the fact it's a pointless time waster. Now that's out of the way I'll get to my review a proper.
This movie was produced by the same guys behind 300 and it's clear director Tarsem Singh decided early on that he wasn't gonna pass up the chance to make this movie look as much like 300 as possible. Only, it kinda falls over that fact.
The problem with wanting to be like 300 is that 300 is a near perfect movie. It's action, style and dialog are all classic and Immortals just doesn't live up to that. Although the action is good, the movies strong point it lacks everywhere else.
Performances are okay though not spell biding. Mickey Rourke does the best job making the king a truly menacing bastard. He's a ruthless monster and although it's explained why he is that way it's pretty flimsy so, he avoids ever becoming a truly memorable bad guy.
Special effects and what have you are all pretty top notch but that is expected from a movie they spend a cool $75m creating. Though the sad thing is, you can see it was all spent covering up the fact the script was weak.
Entertaining but never gets out of the shadow of it's inspiration.

The trailer alone is the kind that makes me avoid this movie at all costs. I can't get past the feeling that every scene seemed off, forced and riddled with shiny SFX.
Where did the good trailers go?

I saw the trailers for this when they were on TV a while back and thought it would be a blandish action explosion fest, because bows totally have high-explosive anti-tank rounds. I suppose it could be worth a shot to go and watch later though I also just have this thing against the gods just giving some random dude powers of epic badassery.

Well Iggy, the gods don't give him any epic powers really. He fights awesome because he's awesome and stuff. Also, those 4 shots he fires with the bow in the trailer? The only shots he takes in the entire movie

I think it gets fired a total of 6 times in the entire movie and he's a peasent who has been training to be a badass from a young age but yeah. Far fetched is a word easily used here
